16days-n-Jamaica - Pt.2 The Blue Mountains Middleton Settlement

Upon arriving in the Blue Mountains of JA I had never been to the Caribbean or experienced life in the (mountains sun!), so needless to say I had to sit in reflect on the many things this world has to offer. Some of these things we take for granted or just don't realize maybe...but being closer to the trees, intrigued by the atmosphere and illuminated by the moon is not an every night/day thing for me in BK.

In the tree-house you can see the scope of the mountains standing on a branch like 50ft in the air. At night you look at lights in the mountains and hear speakers beating from multiple directions like it's a sound clash.

We spent the first day signing up kids for the Lil Raggamuffin' summer camp going door to door, road to road finding kids. Soon they where following us and getting excited because they remember the camp from the previous summer. The colors are filled with energy and a certain freshness like produce.

I took a sec. to snap some shots of the kids in their play-clothes, they all gave so much to the camera. Hiking everywhere we went was real, these kids jump out the trees, run barefooted through the woods and I am too lazy sometimes to walk to the A train?

I took a ton of photo reference of the sky, I think the clouds would touch the tops of the mountains and the sun would just rip through shreds of pinks, blues, whites, greys. My boy Biggs' from the settlement helped me discover the view after a stop to the chicken coop.

I realized we share the same time with so many different people in so many different places. Everybody time is equally important, we spend it on two opposite sides of the spectrum.

Not sure who's heading up Jay z's new art for his upcoming projects but so far so good, fresh, clean and not so much (gangster rap) as apposed to pop art pop culture. What do you think?

16days-n-Jamaica - Pt.1 Painting of Primary School

As some may know and many may not, I have been away this month on a journey that has truly changed my outlook on life and how I see things. I was blessed to meet my good friend Zebi who grew up in the Blue Mountains of JA. For the past three years she has been going back home to throw a summer camp for children in her settlement. It has been a task that she has carried out by herself up until this year. She decided to put a team together, fund raise, and have some of her peers travel over to help out in teaching, counselling, and mentoring the youth. i started out in the first groups of heads to go over and our first mission was to paint a primary after school program for troubled teens. The boys where all about 15-17 and all came to the program on the own merit, the place Kingston, JA. I walked into this drab spot w/ a few second hand paints from the hardware store and had about an hour to get it in' since the day was pretty much over for the teens when we got there. Here are some images of what we did real quick.

1st step taping off sections so we could color black some areas and make designs. The boys where amped to decorate the space. I thought i wouldn't have enough time to paint a wall but as soon as I cracked the paint open they got to work,...trying hard not to get paint on their gear and look cool simultaneously.

At first the guys there kinda just stared at me wondering (who) and (what) i was doing but we soon bonded and paint has a way of involving people in its process. Drips, splatters, change, color, light, inspiration, energy.

When you work collectively on something, like building or painting, all involved take pride and ownership in whats accomplished. We pulled the tape back and the finished product was like a thousand times better than what we initially walked into.

We had a lil' photo shoot outside after the jump' and i got to see the personalities jump outta cats'. The lil shottas' really take pride in their poses and posture and one of the boys wanted a flic with every girl as seen here w/ Wendy, Lisa, and Zebi the first crew to hit JA and the pics turned out kinda "fresh".

Why a2+b2=c2 my signature.

A2+b2=c2 (the pythagoras theorem) started w/ me in highschool, its my initials ACB so i've always been into the equation. I began using it in representation of the past, present, & future...without one there is no complete life. I began to see it like, we cannot forget our past(a2) or look to far into our future(c2) because one looses himself in his/her ambitions or past memories. As esy as it is for us to look back and remember what we enjoy, dislike, or accomplished, it's just as easy for us to see our future, envision ourselves with what we want, need, and strive towards. The present is what we have (b2) it is the most exciting time of our lives to date. I use the equation as a signiture now in my favorite works as it defines a process like beginning, middle, and end.
